It shall be the duty of the City Attorney to advise the City Council, and all officers of the City, on any legal questions that may arise in pursuance of their respective duties and to assist in preparing all ordinances for adoption by the Council when directed so to do by the Council; to draw all deeds or other contracts arising in relation to the affairs of the City; to prosecute and defend all suits or actions originating or pending in court to which the City is a party or in any other courts of the State to which the City is a party and in any action or suit originating or pending in any court of record in this State involving the affairs of the City, the City Attorney may, under the direction of the City Council, obtain such additional legal advice or employ such additional counsel as may be necessary on such terms as the City Council may order, and additional reasonable fees shall be allowed the City Attorney for his/her services, in addition to those prescribed by ordinance, as the Council shall agree to be reasonable and right for his/her services in revising ordinances and for his/her services in courts of record and other exceptional services.
