The proposed Charter shall be submitted to a vote of the electors
of the Village of Spring Lake at the regular election to be held Tuesday,
February 17, 1997, and it shall take effect and become the Charter
of the Village of Spring Lake on April 1, 1997. Adoption of the Charter
shall require a simple majority of those voting on the question.
The form of the ballot proposition shall be as follows: "Shall
the Village Charter proposed by the Charter Commission of the Village
of Spring Lake, elected February 19, 1996, be adopted?"
The terms of Council members elected at the first election under this Charter shall be in accordance with Article
IV and Article
V.
After the effective date of this Charter, all appointive officers
and all employees of the Village shall continue in the office or employment
which they held before the effective date, subject to the terms and
conditions of their employment.
The boards, commissions, authorities, and other agencies of
the Village of Spring Lake shall continue after the adoption of this
Charter.
All matters of the Village government in transition from the
previous Charter to this Charter, which are not otherwise addressed
in this Charter, shall be accomplished by resolutions and ordinances
of the Village Council.
