There is hereby established the office of City Animal Control Officer who shall be responsible for the enforcement of this Chapter.

The City Animal Control Officer shall be appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Board of Aldermen and shall serve at the pleasure of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.

In the absence of the City Animal Control Officer, the Board of Aldermen may in its discretion appoint any City employee to act as such Animal Control Officer. The Board of Aldermen may also appoint any number of City employees to assist the Animal Control Officer or Acting Animal Control Officer when, in its discretion, it is necessary to do so.

The salary of the Animal Control Officer shall be set by the Board of Aldermen. The Animal Control Officer shall be covered by the fringe benefit plan adopted by the Board of Aldermen for other non-union City employees.

The City of Pevely shall provide the Animal Control Officer with the necessary personnel and equipment such as trucks, nets, dart guns, two-way radios, animal food, etc., to enable him/her to carry out his/her functions. In addition, the Board of Aldermen shall authorize the City Clerk to have prepared the necessary blank registration certificates.
