A.
The office of City Clerk shall be under the charge of the City Clerk,
who, in addition to the duties prescribed by ordinance, shall exercise
all the powers, duties and responsibilities of city clerks as set
forth in the Charter and laws of the commonwealth.
B.
The City Clerk shall keep a book in which shall be alphabetically
arranged the names of all the streets and highways which now are or
may hereafter be accepted or laid out, with the date of such laying
out or acceptance, and the width thereof, and all alterations therein
from time to time made by the City Council, and also records in regard
to any street or way which may be opened over private land. He shall
furnish the City Auditor with an account of any and all assessments
made by the City Council relating to streets, sidewalks, sewers or
otherwise, as soon as may be possible after such assessments are made.
He shall be keeper of the City Seal. He shall annually render an itemized
report in writing to the City Council of all money received by him
as fees or otherwise during the preceding financial year. He shall
perform such other duties as the Mayor or City Council may from time
to time require.
A.
Appointment; oath. There shall be an Assistant City Clerk, who shall
be appointed by the City Clerk and who shall be sworn to the faithful
discharge of his duties.
B.
Powers and duties. The Assistant City Clerk shall assist the City
Clerk in carrying out all of the duties of that office and shall perform
such other duties as may be delegated to him by the City Clerk. The
Assistant City Clerk may attest documents, and in the absence of the
City Clerk or in the case of any vacancy in that office or when directed
by the City Clerk shall perform and exercise any and all duties and
powers pertaining to the office of City Clerk.
