A.
All folding awnings attached to any house or building abutting upon any of the streets, lanes or alleys of the City and projecting or extending over and above the streets, lanes or alleys or sidewalks shall be so constructed and erected that all parts of the same shall be at least 7 1/2 feet above the level of the street or sidewalk over which they project, and all such awnings must be safely and solidly constructed and braced and held in such a manner as to render the same safe to persons traveling upon such streets or sidewalks.
B.
All such awnings, all parts of which were, on July 28, 1948, at least seven feet above the level of the street or sidewalk over which they projected, having been so erected pursuant to ordinance, shall be permitted to so remain. If at any time such awnings are replaced by a new awning, then and in such event the provision of this section that all parts of the same should be at least 7 1/2 feet above the level of the street or sidewalk over which they project shall apply.
