The annual election of Town officers shall be held on the second
Tuesday of April of each year, except in 2020 when the annual election
shall be held on March 3. The Selectboard may adjust this schedule
to accommodate religious holidays or a national election primary so
long as the rescheduled date is within 60 days of the second Tuesday
in April. The Selectboard must vote to make the change 90 days prior
to the election and inform the Town Clerk in writing.
The location of the polls and the hours of opening and closing
shall be set by order of the Selectboard.
There shall be five voting precincts containing the metes and
bounds description set forth below:

EASTERN BOUND: Memorial Drive, Willimansett Street, Granby Road,
Lyman Street.
NORTHERN BOUND: McKinley Avenue, Newton Street, Purple Heart
Drive.
WESTERN BOUND: Bardwell Street, Canal Street, Route 202 and
Purple Heart Drive.

The duties of elected officials shall be those set forth in
the Massachusetts General Laws, except to the extent otherwise provided
in these bylaws.
A.
The officers of the Town elected by the voters shall be:

(1)
A Moderator, elected for three years;
(2)
Five members of the Selectboard, each elected for three years, who
shall also serve as the Road Commissioners, the Sewer Commissioners
and the Police Commissioners;
(3)
Five members of the School Committee, each elected for three years;
(4)
Five members of the Board of Health, each elected for three years;

Three members of the Board of Assessors, each elected for three years;
(6)
Five members, of the Planning Board, each elected for three years;
(7)
Five members of the Municipal Light Board, each elected for three
years;
(8)
Four members of the Housing Authority (exclusive of the member selected
by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts), each elected for five years;
(9)
Nine Library Trustees, each elected for three years;
(10)
One hundred and twenty Town Meeting members, each elected for three
years, comprised of 24 from each Precinct.
B.
In each case where three or more members are to be elected for any
office, as close to 1/3 as is possible shall be elected annually.
The office of Town Auditor is abolished. (MGL c. 41, § 55)

The term of office of an elected Town officer shall commence
following his or her election immediately upon administration by the
Town Clerk of the oath of office except where the election is held
before the second Tuesday in April, in which case the term shall commence
on the day after the second Tuesday in April. Where the election is
held after the second Tuesday in April, the term shall commence the
day after the election and any term office in existence shall continue
to the day following the election. The oath of office will be administered
by the Town Clerk for all elected and/or appointed officials prior
to their participation on a board or committee; and, furthermore,
the Clerk may make additional requests prescribed by Massachusetts
General Laws or these General Bylaws before the appointee may participate
as a member of a board or commission.
Vacancies in any Town office shall be filled according to those
requirements set forth in MGL c. 41, § 10 and § 11.
