In accordance with 53 P.S. § 56505 of the First Class
Township Code, the Board of Commissioners of the Township of Pocono
reaffirms the establishment of a department to be known as the "Police
Department."
The Police Department shall be composed of a Chief of Police,
and officers and patrolmen, to be appointed by the Commissioners of
Pocono Township. Any such appointment shall remain in force until
the appointee resigns or is removed by action of the Board of Commissioners
at a public meeting, after the officer has been notified of charges
brought against him and has been given a public hearing by the Board
of Commissioners. Nothing in this chapter shall diminish the power
of the Board of Commissioners to discharge, suspend or reduce an officer's
rank in accordance with applicable Pennsylvania law.
The Commissioners hereby vest in the officers of the Police
Department all police powers recognized under the law of the Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania.
The Chief of Police may from time to time, as necessary, deputize
officers to serve on a short period of duty in the Police Department
to assist in other than routine situations such as public disturbances,
riots, fires or other emergencies.
Any police officer appointed by the Commissioners shall serve
a probationary period of one year, unless such requirement is waived
at the time of appointment. All such appointees shall meet the requirements
established by the Municipal Police Officers Education and Training
Commission.
The Chief of Police, with approval of the Commissioners, may
adopt and publish regulations dealing with the administration of the
Department. Any Departmental regulations shall be available for inspection
at the Township Police Department headquarters.
