Any individual presently an employee of the City and who was formerly an employee of the City and who has returned to service in the department such employee was formerly employed in after a leave of absence or who has been reinstated in such department, or whenever an individual who was formerly an employee of the City shall return to service in the department such employee was formerly employed in after a leave of absence or be reinstated in such department, he shall, as of such return to service, be given credit for length of service rendered previously and shall be placed in the salary step and receive the rate of pay he would have received had the prior service been rendered under the minimum and maximum salary schedule in effect at the time of his resumption of employment.[1]

As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
EMPLOYEE
Includes department heads as herein designated, unless otherwise particularly specified.
Except as may be otherwise provided by any general or special law to the contrary, any employee of the City who may be entitled to a vacation shall be entitled to one additional day of vacation should a legal holiday occur during such vacation period.

All employees shall be responsible for adhering to the City of Lowell Employee Handbook, as amended from time to time.

All benefits under this chapter, for vacation time, personal leave and sick time, shall accrue as of January 1 of the calendar year.
Employees will receive their payroll checks every two weeks by direct deposit, once all bargaining groups have approved biweekly payroll.
