[Adopted 7-16-1987 by L.L. No. 8-1987; amended in its entirety 5-22-2017 by L.L. No. 2-2017]
The Board of Trustees of the Village of New Hempstead hereby determines that it is in the best interests of the Village to have the widest possible latitude in the appointment of qualified persons to the offices of Village Clerk, Village Treasurer, Deputy Village Clerk and Deputy Village Treasurer. To that end, it is the purpose of this article to modify the Village Law restriction that such officers must be Village residents.
Notwithstanding the provisions of the Village Law of the State of New York or any other state or local law, a person who is not a resident of the Village of New Hempstead may be appointed to the office of Village Clerk, Village Treasurer, Deputy Village Clerk or Deputy Village Treasurer, provided that such person is a bona fide resident of the County of Rockland or of any county contiguous thereto. All other requirements and/or qualifications for the holding of such offices shall be as provided in state law.
