This is a chapter to provide for the health, safety, welfare
and preservation of the Mt. Hope Cemetery and the Oakdale Cemetery;
to regulate conduct of those persons entering on cemetery grounds,
and conduct during ceremonies conducted in the cemeteries.
No person shall, in Mt. Hope or in Oakdale Cemetery:
A. Throw, discard or leave any papers, litter, garbage or rubbish, unless
the same is deposited in containers furnished by the City for this
purpose.
B. Pick or mutilate any flowers, either wild or domestic, or disturb
any tree, shrub or other plant material.
C. Possess, transport or consume any alcoholic beverage.
D. Permit any dog (except leader dogs for the blind), cat, or other
domestic animal to enter or remain in the cemetery.
E. Discharge any firearm. This prohibition shall not apply to volleys
authorized by the Sexton at burial or memorial services or to cemetery
employees or police officers when such discharge is done in the course
of employment.
F. Discharge any BB gun or pellet gun. This prohibition shall not apply
to cemetery employees or police officers when such discharge is done
in the course of employment.
G. Plant trees, flowers, weeds or vegetables without the consent of
the Sexton.
H. Operate any motor vehicle, as defined in Chapter
14, Vehicles and Traffic, of the Code of the City of Lapeer in a manner which is prohibited by the provisions of Chapter
14.
I. Operate or ride as a passenger on any motorcycle, motorbike, mini-bike,
skateboard, go-cart or snowmobile. This prohibition shall not apply
to police officers or cemetery employees traveling to, from or in
the course of their employment.
J. Who is under the age of 18 years, ride any bicycle unless accompanied
by a parent or legal guardian.
K. Use cemetery property as a shortcut or an area in which to learn
driving.
L. Operate a motor vehicle or bicycle off the established roads unless
permission is given in writing by the Sexton.
M. Start or maintain any fire.
N. Enter, remain in, use or occupy any portion of the cemetery between
the hours of 10:30 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., unless prior written approval
has been obtained from the Sexton.
O. Use cemetery grounds as a park, playground or for recreational purposes,
including, but not limited to, hitting golf balls, playing football,
baseball, or throwing frisbees.
