Two Aldermen shall be elected to represent each ward of the City. All Aldermen elected shall hold office for a term of four years and until their successors are elected and have qualified.
No person shall be eligible to the office of Alderman unless he is a qualified elector of the municipality and has resided therein and in his ward at least one year preceding his election or appointment, and he must also meet the qualifications of the Illinois Municipal Code.
The compensation of Aldermen shall be fixed by ordinance at least 180 days before the beginning of the terms of the elected official whose compensation is to be fixed. In no case may the compensation be raised or lowered during a term of office.

The annual salary of Aldermen shall be increased to $3,000 ($250 per month) effective upon the beginning of the next term of office, respectively, following the 2015 Consolidated Election or 2017 Consolidated Election, as the case may be.
If a vacancy occurs in the office of Alderman, the following rules shall apply:
(A) 
If the unexpired term is 28 months or less in length, the Mayor, with the advice and consent of the Aldermen, may appoint a person to serve as Alderman until the next consolidated election under the general election law.
(B) 
If the unexpired term is more than 28 months in length, and more than 130 days before the next consolidated election, his successor shall be filled at said election. Until said election a person may be appointed by the Mayor, with the advice and consent of the Aldermen, to fill said vacancy.
