There is hereby created the office of Sanitarian First Class, who shall perform the following duties:
A. 
Supervise the administration of the Department of Health in the absence of the Health Officer and exercise all powers and perform any and all acts and duties which the Health Officer is empowered or authorized to perform under any statute of the State of New Jersey or ordinance of the Township of Cranford now or hereafter adopted, during the absence of such Health Officer.
B. 
Attend all regular and special meetings of the Board of Health.
C. 
Make thorough inspections and investigations of food-handling establishments and establish and maintain proper sanitary standards therefor.
D. 
Carry out and enforce an effective rodent and insect control program.
E. 
Make periodic samples of potable water supply.
F. 
Enforce the Sanitary Code as established by the Township of Cranford and the State Department of Health and perform such other duties as the Township Committee may prescribe.[1]

The Sanitarian First Class shall be appointed by the Township Committee by a majority vote thereof for the term of one year beginning on the first day of January of each year and ending on the 31st day of December of each year.

The Sanitarian First Class shall receive such salary as the Township Committee may fix by Township ordinance.
