Paid firefighters shall be classified as provided by current contract.
A. 
First-year firefighters shall be appointed as such by the Township Committee on nomination of the Chief.
B. 
Such firefighters shall hold their appointment for a probationary period of 18 months. Advancement to second-year firefighter shall require written recommendation by the Chief of the Department.
C. 
Such firefighters shall be subject to summary removal by the Chief, subject to confirmation of such removal by resolution of the Township Committee.

A. 
Second-, third- and fourth-year firefighters shall be considered as permanent members of the paid Fire Department.
B. 
Such firefighters may be removed only for cause and only after a hearing and formal action by the Township Committee as provided by law.

The firefighter-inspector shall be appointed for terms as provided in current contracts.
B. 
No firefighter-inspector or mechanic shall be appointed who has completed less than the probation period of 18 months as a firefighter.
C. 
The firefighter-inspector shall be considered a permanent member of the Fire Department and may be removed only for cause and only after a hearing and formal action by the Township Committee as provided by law.
A. 
The duties of a firefighter-inspector shall be to perform all the duties of a firefighter as provided for in the current contract and maintain a license and provide for enforcement of codes.
B. 
The duties of a mechanic will be provided in current contracts.
The Township Committee may appoint by resolution, on the recommendation of the Chief, as a paid or volunteer member of the Fire Department, any person who has attained the age of 18 years.

A. 
The hours of employment of the paid members of the Fire Department shall be so arranged that no such member shall be required to remain on actual duty, except in case of an emergency, for more than an average of 42 hours per week or any eight-week cycle.
B. 
In case of an emergency, the Chief shall have full authority to summon or keep on duty any and all such members during the period of the emergency.
Paid holidays and annual vacations will be as specified and provided for in current contract.
Emergency leaves of absence, sick leave and absences without pay will be as specified and provided by current contract.
