This article shall be known as the "Local Law extending the
term of the Town Supervisor" in the Town of Fallsburg, County of Sullivan,
State of New York.
The purpose of this article is to extend the term of office
for the Town Supervisor from two years to four years. The Town Board
recognizes that the Office of the Town Supervisor is a full-time position,
and the Town Board believes an extended term would bring greater continuity
to the office, and thus believes that the extended term is in the
public's best interest.
This article is enacted pursuant to the Town's authority
under §§ 10(1)(ii)(a) and 23(2)(e) of the Municipal
Home Rule Law of the State of New York.
This article shall extend the term of the Town Supervisor from
two years to four years, such four-year terms shall commence as of
the first day of January 2016, and shall apply to those persons elected
to such office at the Biennial Town Election to be held on November
3, 2015, and to those elected to the position of Supervisor thereafter.
In accordance with the provisions of the Municipal Home Rule
Law of the State of New York, this article shall not become operative
or effective unless and until it shall have been approved at the above-referenced
biennial/general election held within the Town of Fallsburg on November
3, 2015, by the affirmative vote of a majority of the qualified electors
of the Town of Fallsburg voting upon the proposition.
