As used in this article, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
CRIMINAL HISTORY RECORD BACKGROUND CHECK
A determination of whether a person has a criminal record by cross referencing that person's name and fingerprints with those on file with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Identification Division, and the State Bureau of Identification in the Division of State Police.
The Director of Public Safety is authorized to request a criminal history record background check of any person for an official government purpose, including, without limitation, employment, licensing and the procurement of services.
Any person seeking employment with the Township must consent to a criminal history background check to be conducted through the State Bureau of Investigation. The Township shall be responsible for the cost of the criminal history background check. Such applicants shall fully complete Form SBI-212B (available at the Police Department). Applicants who are requested to submit the required Form SBI-212B and fail to do so or otherwise refuse to consent to or cooperate in securing a criminal history background check shall not be considered for employment.
The Director of Public Safety shall receive and review the results of the criminal history background checks and either approve or disapprove an applicant for employment. When reviewing a record with one or more convictions, the Township Administrator shall consider the criteria set forth in Article I, § 12-8B.
