[Adopted 9-16-2014 by L.L. No. 3-2014]
The raising and keeping of chickens for purely noncommercial purposes shall be allowed anywhere within the Village of Cobleskill, provided that the owners comply with the following requirements:
Shelter and pasture required. Every person keeping and/or raising chickens must provide an adequate shelter that shields them from environmental factors, including rain, snow and wind. No free range or roaming shall be permitted. Additionally, all adequate shelter areas shall include some perimeter restriction which will prevent them from flying or escaping.
Setback. Adequate shelter areas, as described above, must meet a minimum setback requirement of 15 feet from the land owner's property line.
Storage of feed shall be in covered containers, which will prevent contamination and keeps other animals and rodents from being able to access it.
Nothing in this section shall be construed to allow for roosters.
Any violation of this article shall constitute a violation punishable by a fine or a civil penalty as set forth in Chapter 1, General Provisions, Article II, General Penalty. For the purposes of enforcing the provisions of this article, appearance tickets may be issued by the Code Enforcement Officer.
