A Police Department is hereby established in and for the Borough of Bristol. The Chief of Police shall be the chief executive of the Police Department. He shall, under the direction of the Mayor, be in charge of the police force and have supervision over its members in the exercise of their powers, duties and authority.

1. 
Subordinate to the Chief of Police in the Police Department there shall exist the following classifications:
A. 
Sergeants, in the number as Borough Council may from time to time authorize. The Sergeant Senior in time of service in the Sergeant's position shall act in place of the Chief of Police in the absence or incapacity of the Chief of Police.
B. 
Corporals in the number as Borough Council may from time to time authorize. Corporals shall be in charge of shifts where there are no other supervisory personnel assigned at the time.
C. 
Patrolmen in such number as Borough Council may from time to time authorize. One patrolman shall serve in the position of detective as authorized from time to time by Borough Council.
