A Police Department is hereby established in and for the Township
of New Hanover.

1. The Department shall consist of all full and part-time policemen;
one of whom shall be appointed by the Board of Supervisors to the
position of "Chief" under the direction of the Board of Supervisors,
the Chief of Police shall be in charge of the police force and shall
have supervision over its members and shall prescribe such rules and
regulations, subject to the approval of the Board of Supervisors,
for the exercise of their powers, duties and authorities.
2. Subordinate to the Chief of Police is the position of patrolman and
other positions as may be established by the Board of Supervisors
from time to time.

The persons to serve in each capacity of the Chief of Police
and patrolmen, on a full time or part-time basis, and the compensation
of the Chief of Police and each other member of the Department shall
be determined by the Board of Supervisors from time to time.

All appointments to the Department, including the Chief of Police,
shall be at the direction of the Board of Supervisors and may be discharged
by the Board of Supervisors in accordance with the provisions of the
Police Tenure Act, 53 P.S. § 811 et seq., or other statutory
authority.

Each member of the Department shall attend police officers schools
at the direction of the Board of Supervisors.

The Board of Supervisors shall provide each policeman, including
the Chief of Police, with a uniform approved and accepted by the Board
of Supervisors; all necessary equipment and means of transportation
and maintenance of same shall be supplied at the direction of the
Board of Supervisors, and the cost thereof to be paid out of the General
Township Fund of New Hanover Township.

Each policeman, including the Chief of Police, shall wear a
shield or badge with the words, "Township Police," and the name of
New Hanover Township inscribed thereon.
