A planning commission for the City of Royal Oak shall be organized
under the provisions of Michigan Planning Enabling Act, Act No. 33
of 2008,[1] as amended, and shall have the powers and duties therein
specified.

Said planning commission shall consist of seven members, including
the Mayor, one member of the City Commission and five resident members
who shall be appointed by the Mayor, subject to approval by a majority
of the members of the City Commission, and who shall serve for the
terms herein specified.
The membership of the Planning Commission shall be representative
of important segments of the community, such as the economic, governmental,
educational, and social development of the City, in accordance with
the major interests as they exist in the City, such as agriculture,
natural resources, recreation, education, public health, government,
transportation, industry, and commerce. The membership shall also
be representative of the entire territory of the City to the extent
practicable. The terms of the ex-officio members shall correspond
to their respective official tenures. The terms of the five non-officio
members shall be for three years; provided, however, that they shall
serve until their successors are appointed and qualified. No members
of the Planning Commission shall receive any compensation as such.
The Planning Commission shall consider and advise the City Commission on all proposed changes in Chapter 770, Zoning, referred to it by the City Commission, shall consider and pass upon all proposed plats referred to it by the City Commission, and make recommendation as to the approval, modification or disapproval thereof to the City Commission. The Planning Commission may make such recommendations as its deems advisable to the City Commission relative to City planning and future development of the City and shall have all the other duties and powers vested in planning commissions by virtue of the laws of the State of Michigan or ordinances of the City of Royal Oak.
The Planning Commission may be allowed such amount for expenses
as deemed advisable by the City Commission.
