[Added at time of adoption of Code (see Ch. 1, General Provisions, Art. II)]
There is hereby created, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:9-140, the position of Township Engineer, who shall be appointed by the Township Committee for a term of office of three years.
The Township Engineer shall:
A. 
Attend all regular meetings of the Township Committee and special meetings and meetings of auxiliary committees as requested.
B. 
Advise the Township Committee and other officials of the Township with respect to all engineering matters.
C. 
Prepare plans, specifications, estimates, drawings, maps and such other engineering data as may be required for proposed projects of the Township and the public advertisement thereof.
D. 
Supervise and secure the due execution, whether by contract or by the Township Engineer's office, of all ordinances and resolutions with respect to construction, repair, improvement, regulation and maintenance of public ways and places, sanitary and storm sewers, Rahway River and other public engineering works under Township jurisdiction, except as otherwise assigned by the Township Committee.
E. 
Prepare and submit the necessary data and recommendations required for the annual budget for the Township Engineer's office.
F. 
Establish and furnish, as required, all lines and grades for all public ways, sewers, ditches and other public facilities.
G. 
Keep a record of all surveys, established grades and other engineering data and file and preserve all books, records, maps, papers and other matters pertaining to the Township Engineer's office.
H. 
Maintain public records of all work performed under his supervision and prepare, in due form, all payrolls for the Township Engineer's office.
I. 
Supervise the preparation of all public vouchers pertaining to the Township Engineer's office and certify to the receipt of materials and services.
J. 
Cooperate with officials of the state, county and other municipalities in all engineering matters affecting the interests of the Township.
K. 
Submit an annual report at the end of each calendar year listing projects completed during the year, those uncompleted and his recommendations as to projects to be undertaken during the next year.
L. 
Perform such duties as may be specifically assigned by other provisions of this Code or as may be directed by the Township Committee.
