[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Trustees of the Village of Hempstead 8-2-2017 by L.L. No. 6-2017. Amendments noted where applicable.]
In accordance with the Absolute Charter issued by the University of the State of New York Education Department, a municipal public library and Library Board of Trustees was authorized and is hereby established by the Village.
The library shall be administered by a Board of Trustees consisting of five members, who are approved by the Mayor of the Village of Hempstead and the Hempstead Village Board of Trustees.
Members of the Library Board of Trustees shall be appointed for four-year terms. Vacancies, occurring other than by expiration of terms of office, shall be filled for the unexpired terms of the offices so filled.
Each member of the Library Board of Trustees shall serve without compensation.
The Library Board of Trustees shall be responsible for appointing all library staff, including, but not limited to, a Secretary to the Library Board of Trustees.
The Library Board of Trustees shall be required to hold at least 10 meetings a year. Written minutes of such meetings shall be kept and maintained, and copies thereof shall be promptly furnished to the Village Clerk.
