[HISTORY: Adopted by the Village Board of the Village of
Grafton 1-21-2013 by Ord. No. 008-2013; amended in its entirety at time
of adoption of Code (see Ch. 1.01, Code Adoption). Subsequent amendments
noted where applicable.]
The Public Safety Committee of the Village shall consist of
five members, three appointed by the Village of Grafton Board and
two appointed by the Town of Grafton Board.
The Village Trustee members of the Public Safety Committee shall
be appointed by the Village President and confirmed by the Village
Board annually at the second Village Board meeting in April. A Village
Trustee member of the Public Safety Committee shall serve for one
year unless his/her office becomes vacant.
The Village President, the Village Administrator, Police Chief,
Fire Chief, Emergency Management Director and Building Inspector shall
be ex officio members of the Public Safety Committee.
A quorum of the Public Safety Committee for meetings in which
non-Fire Department-related items are listed on the meeting agenda
shall be two Village Trustee members. A quorum of the Public Safety
Committee for meetings on which Fire Department-related items are
listed on the meeting agenda shall be three members of the Public
Safety Committee.
Vacancies shall be filled for the unexpired term of members
whose terms become vacant in the same manner as originally appointed.
The Public Safety Committee shall act in an advisory capacity
to the Village Board regarding matters related to the following:
A.
To ensure overall public safety through review of police, fire and
inspection operations and recommendations to other pertinent committees
or boards;
B.
To periodically review and update those ordinances concerned with
overall public safety and make recommendations to the Village Board;
C.
To review the regulations of traffic;
D.
To recommend to the Village Board the approval of certain purchases
relative to police and fire matters;
E.
To recommend a forum for the public to review various permits and
inspection complaints, to include special use permits, and make recommendations
to the Village Board;
F.
To review the Police, Fire and Inspection Departments' proposed budgets
annually and make recommendations to the Finance Committee;
G.
To recommend to the Village Board the adoption of such ordinances
that will promote safety to our citizens;
H.
To review inspection procedures relating to fire and safety; and
I.
To review parking, traffic or pedestrian complaints and make recommendations
to the Village Board.
