There is hereby established the office of Director of Public Works who shall be appointed by the mayor, with the consent of the Board of Aldermen. The Director shall be chosen on the basis of administrative skills and public works training, with special reference to experience in or knowledge of accepted practices pertaining to the duties of the office. The Director may be removed from this position by the Board of Aldermen.

A. 
The Director of Public Works, under the supervision of the Board of Aldermen, shall have charge of:
1. 
The repair, care, and maintenance of all public streets, alleys and driveways;
2. 
Storm sewer collection systems owned or maintained by the City;
3. 
The lighting of public streets and alleys and shall keep the lighting system in efficient operation and good repair;
4. 
The repair, care, and maintenance of all public works buildings and grounds;
5. 
The care of all property of the City which is not assigned to the care or custody of any other department.
6. 
The Director of Public Works, under the supervision of the City Board of Aldermen, shall exercise control and supervision over all employees assigned to the Department of Public Works.
7. 
In addition to the powers enumerated herein, the Director shall have the powers delegated to such position or subordinate positions by ordinances of the City and such other duties as may be assigned by the City Board of Aldermen.
