There is hereby created the office of Superintendent of Public Works, an executive office of the Village. The Superintendent of Public Works shall be appointed by the Mayor, with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees for a term consistent with that of the Mayor.
The Superintendent of Public Works shall have charge of and be responsible for:
(A) 
The operation and maintenance of the municipal water and sewer distribution systems as otherwise provided in this Code.
(B) 
The construction and care of all public streets, alleys and driveways in the Village.
(C) 
The cleaning and safekeeping of all public streets, alleys and driveways.
(D) 
The construction, repair, and maintenance of all gutters and drains located within or upon public streets, alleys and driveways and elsewhere by easement or right-of-way, ensuring that the same are kept free from defects.
(E) 
Supervise the lighting of public streets and alleys.
(F) 
Such other duties and responsibilities as may be otherwise defined in other chapters of this Code.
(G) 
Take custody of all Village property which is not otherwise assigned to the care and custody of any other Village officer or official.
All officers or employees assigned to the Department of Public Works shall perform their duties subject to the directions and under the supervision of the Superintendent of Public Works.[1]
