Continuous Operation. Whenever necessary, each superintendent or office manager shall provide for the continuous operation of the department.
The following shall apply for lunches: each superintendent shall establish the lunch schedule for their own department; travel time to and from any eating place is included in the lunch period; the lunch break cannot be used for compensatory time or as a substitute for tardiness; lunch periods may not be taken at the end of the day or in conjunction with a rest period unless the employee has obtained prior written approval from his or her immediate supervisor.
Each superintendent shall maintain accurate daily attendance records. An employee shall be at their place of work in accordance with the attendance rules. Tardiness or other abuse of regular attendance will not be tolerated. The attendance records will indicate information in order to properly pay employees for actual work performed. An employee shall have the right to review his attendance record on file in the department. No one will be permitted to sign in or out for another employee. An employee shall, whenever possible, provide advance notice of absence from work. When Village offices and buildings are open but inclement weather prevents employees from reaching the buildings, employees may account for such absences by using accrued time, such as vacation and compensatory time earned, or the employee may elect to be docked for time off. Sick leave may not be used to cover absence due to inclement weather.
[Amended 4-16-2019 by Ord. No. 19-04-02]
All full-time, nonexempt, and exempt employees shall have time off with full payment on the day designated as a holiday by the Village Board. (Exempt: those to whom payment of overtime is not required by state of federal law; nonexempt: those for whom an accurate record of actual hours worked must be maintained, as law requires the payment of overtime.) Employees cannot use sick leave in lieu of designated holidays. All full-time employees covered by this chapter who are required to work on a designated holiday shall receive a rate of 1 1/2 times the regular rate of pay for the hours worked on such holiday. Straight time pay for the holiday will also be paid. To be eligible for those days designated as paid holidays, employees must be in attendance the full workday prior to the designated holiday and the full workday following the designated holiday, unless the employee is absent from work for authorized use of vacation or sick leave. When a paid holiday falls on Saturday, the preceding Friday shall be considered the Village holiday. When a paid holiday falls on Sunday, the following Monday shall be the Village holiday.
