Water mains and appurtenances shall be installed in conformance
with AWWA C-600, the material manufacturer's recommendations
and these development standards.
A.
Backfilling shall not be done until installation of the water main
has been inspected and approved by the Director of Public Services
or City Engineer.
B.
Backfill to four inches above the top of the pipe shall be done with
material conforming to bedding material placed in six-inch lifts compacted
to 95% maximum dry density as determined according to ASTM D1557 or
AASHTO-T18O.
C.
Excavations for the water mains which are beneath any existing or
proposed pavements, driveways and sidewalks and any trenches where
the inner edge is within two feet of such areas shall be backfilled
with MDOT Class II granular material in twelve-inch lifts compacted
to 95% maximum dry density as determined according to ASTM D1557 or
AASHTO-T18O.G7.
D.
Excavations for water mains not beneath or within two feet of existing
or proposed paved areas shall be backfilled with material excavated
from the trench, unless such material is determined to be unsuitable
by the City Engineer. The material shall be free from clods and rocks
and shall be placed in twelve-inch lifts compacting each lift to yield
a minimum of 85% of maximum dry density as determined accordingly
to ASTM D1557 or AASHTO-T18O.
All connections to the existing water system shall be made under
full water service pressure unless otherwise approved by the Director
of Public Services and/or City Manager upon advice of the City Engineer.
A.
Fire hydrants shall have a minimum of one cubic yard of 1/4 inch
to 3/4 inch of washed stone placed at the base of the hydrant to provide
drainage at the barrel.
B.
Auxiliary valves shall be connected to hydrants. The minimum distance
between auxiliary valve and hydrant shall be 30 inches.
C.
The center of the hydrant's pumper nozzle shall be not less
than 18 inches nor more than 26 inches above finished ground elevation.
Hydrants in street rights-of-way shall be placed not less than three
feet nor more than eight feet from the back of curb. Hydrants shall
be a minimum of 48 inches from any tree, pole or other obstruction.
D.
Hydrants shall be marked with a six-foot wip locator or six-foot
signpost, painted green in color with a reflector of the size and
mounting location approved by the Director of Public Services and/or
City Engineer.
A.
Water service lines shall have a minimum cover of four feet six inches.
B.
Curb stops and curb boxes shall be located in public rights-of-way.
Such curb stops and boxes shall not be located in any paved areas
unless approved by the City Engineer.
C.
Do not operate valve on the existing mains; City Water Department
will operate the valves.
