[Adopted 11-18-2008 by Ord. No. 07-2008]
[Amended at time of adoption of Code (see Ch. 1, General Provisions, Art. II)]
As used in this article, the following vehicles shall be concerned:
A.
Any non-ambulance, non-fire apparatus vehicle operated under the control of either volunteer fire company of the Township.
B.
Vehicle assigned to the Township Emergency Management Office.
C.
Vehicle assigned to the Township Fire Police.
The Township emergency vehicles, with the exception of ambulances and fire apparatus, are owned by the Township for the exclusive use of Township personnel during times of emergency in Fairfield Township or for the conduct of official Township business.
Keeping the vehicles in the possession of the Township officials at their residence is a privilege, not a right. Vehicles may, under appropriate circumstances, be maintained only at residences within the boundaries of Fairfield Township.
When in the possession of the Township official, the vehicle shall be maintained in a clean and operational condition. Vehicle log shall be properly filled out documenting use. This log shall include a strict monitoring of all fuel usage to include: mileage, gallons received, and from whom fuel was obtained.
The vehicles are to be used exclusively for emergency calls and operations, official Township business, mutual aid assignments within Cumberland County, transportation of Township personnel to and from educational activities, and other activities as authorized by the Township Committee.
The vehicles shall not be used as a personal vehicle for transportation in unofficial Township business, shall not be used for transporting non-Township personnel with the exception of victims of an emergency event, shall not be used for transportation to and from personal employment, nor for transportation to and from personal recreational activities. An exception from this section may be made in the case of Fire/EMS officers that have the ability to respond from their place of employment, in which case, they shall, upon majority vote of the Township Committee, be authorized to use their assigned vehicle for transportation to work.
Violation of this article could result in the revocation of use of the vehicle by the offending official. First violation will result in a warning being issued to the violating official. Second violation will result in the vehicle being maintained at the station assigned for a period of six months for use only on calls as authorized above. A third violation will result in permanent assignment of the vehicle to the station. Any further violations may result in the Township Committee taking further action to include elimination of the vehicle from the Township inventory.
