The Mayor shall be elected as hereinafter provided and prior to April of 2023 shall hold office for a term of three (3) years and for a term of four years when elected in April of 2023 or thereafter or until the successor is elected and qualified. The newly elected Mayor shall take office on the first Tuesday in April following the mayoral election.

The Mayor must be at least twenty-five years of age, must have resided in the City for at least one year immediately preceding the election and must be a registered voter of the City. If the Mayor files a certificate of nomination for any municipal elective office other than Mayor, he or she must resign as Mayor effective 12:01 a.m. on the Second Tuesday in April of the current year.

The Mayor shall receive an annual salary as set from time to time by an ordinance passed by the Council in the regular course of business. The ordinance making any change in the salary paid to the Mayor, either by way of increase or decrease, shall be finally ordained prior to the municipal election to elect the next succeeding Mayor, and shall take effect only as to the next beginning of the succeeding Mayor's term of office.
A. 
The Mayor shall be recognized as head of the City government for all ceremonial purposes.
B. 
The Mayor shall have the power to veto ordinances and resolutions passed by the Council as provided in Section C-13.
C. 
The Mayor shall have such other powers and perform such other duties as may be prescribed by this Charter, or as may be required by the Council, not inconsistent with this Charter.
