[Ord. No. 227, 9/5/2006]
Where an improved property, at the time connection to a sewer is required, shall be served by its own sewage disposal system or device, the existing house sewer line shall be broken on the structure side of such sewage disposal system or device and attachment shall be made, with proper fittings, to continue such house sewer line, as a building sewer. Pre-existing building sewers may be used in connection with said building only when such connection is approved, in writing, by the Township and said connection meets the requirements of this Part and any and all other statutes, ordinances, rules, or regulations as may be otherwise adopted, enacted, and promulgated by the Township.
[Ord. No. 227, 9/5/2006]
No building sewer shall be covered until it has been inspected and approved by this Township. If any part of a building sewer is covered before so being inspected and approved, it shall, at the direction of the Township, be uncovered for inspection at the cost and expense of the owner of the improved property to be connected to a sewer.
[Ord. No. 227, 9/5/2006]
Every building sewer of any improved property shall be maintained in a sanitary and safe operating condition by the owner of such improved property.
[Ord. No. 227, 9/5/2006]
Every excavation for a building sewer shall be guarded adequately with barricades, lights and/or other safety devices to protect all persons from damage and injury. Streets, sidewalks and all other public property disturbed in the course of installation of a building sewer shall be restored, at the cost and expense of the owner of the improved property being connected, in a manner satisfactory to the Township, and in accordance and compliance with any and all statutes, ordinances, rules, or regulations as may be enacted, adopted, and/or promulgated by the Township and any other regulatory department, agency, board, or bureau as may have jurisdiction regarding such public property.
[Ord. No. 227, 9/5/2006]
If any person shall fail or refuse, upon receipt of a notice from this Township, in writing, to remedy any unsatisfactory conditions with respect to a building sewer, within 30 days of receipt of such notice, this Township may refuse to permit such person to discharge sanitary sewage and industrial wastes into the sewer system until such unsatisfactory conditions shall have been remedied to the satisfaction of the Township.
[Ord. No. 227, 9/5/2006]
The size and slope of the building sewer shall be subject to the approval of the Township, but in no event shall the diameter be less than four inches. The slope of such four inch pipe shall not be less than 1/4 inches per foot.
[Ord. No. 227, 9/5/2006]
Whenever possible, the building sewer shall be brought to the building at an elevation below the basement floor. No building sewer shall be laid parallel to or within three feet of any bearing wall, which might thereby be weakened. The depth shall be sufficient to afford protection from frost. The building sewer shall be laid at uniform grade and in straight alignment insofar as possible. Changes in direction shall be made only with properly curved pipe and fittings. Cleanouts, in accordance with standards and specifications as may be adopted by the Township or otherwise directed by the Township Engineer, are required to be installed and maintained at every 100 feet in length of the building sewer.
[Ord. No. 227, 9/5/2006]
In a building in which the building drain is too low to permit gravity flow to the public sewer, sanitary sewage carried by such drain shall be lifted by approved artificial means and discharged to the building sewer, the specifications, design, and installation of which shall be subject to the advance review and approval of the Township Engineer.
[Ord. No. 227, 9/5/2006]
This Township reserves the right to adopt, from time to time, additional rules and regulations as it shall deem necessary and proper relating to connections with a sewer and the sewer system, which additional rules and regulations, to the extent appropriate, shall be in the form of a resolution and shall be construed as a part of this Part.
