There shall be one assessor of taxes for the Township who shall be known by the title "Tax Assessor" and who shall be appointed by the Township Committee and shall not be an elected official.

The term of the Tax Assessor shall be for a period of four years, commencing the first day of July next following his appointment. Any vacancy other than a vacancy due to expiration of term shall be filled by appointment for the unexpired term only.

Compensation to be paid the Tax Assessor shall be as set forth in the salary ordinance or resolution or otherwise by ordinance each year.
Such person as shall hold the position as Tax Assessor on the effective date of this article shall remain in office as a temporary appointment with the term of office to expire on the 30th day of June next following the effective date of this article so that the next full term for an appointed municipal Tax Assessor for the Township shall commence from the first day of July next following the effective date of this article.
