Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:9-135a there is hereby created the office of the Township Deputy Municipal Clerk to serve and to perform those duties as are set forth in the statutes of the State of New Jersey and this article.

The Township Deputy Municipal Clerk shall be appointed by a majority vote of the Township Committee. Said appointment shall be made within 120 days of this article becoming effective.
No elected member of the governing body shall be eligible for appointment as Township Deputy Municipal Clerk during his or her term of office nor within one year after the expiration of said term.
The person appointed to the office of the Township Deputy Municipal Clerk need not be a resident of the Township at the time of his or her appointment and may reside outside the Municipality if agreed to by the Township Committee.

The Township Deputy Municipal Clerk shall receive such compensation as the Township Committee shall agree to so long as it is within the range of the annual salary ordinance or resolution approved by the Township Committee.
The Township Deputy Municipal Clerk shall have the duties prescribed by N.J.S.A. 40A:9-135 and shall generally assist the Clerk.
