[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Commissioners of the Township of Stowe 6-14-1976(28) (Ch. 7, Part 1, of the 1993 Code of Ordinances). Amendments noted where applicable.]
The Fire Department of the Township of Stowe, which shall be designated and known as the "Stowe Township General Fire Department," shall be composed of one or more volunteer fire companies, each of which shall have quarters in the Township. No volunteer fire company shall have membership in the Stowe Township General Fire Department unless it shall have been recognized as such by action of the Board of Township Commissioners. At its discretion, the Board of Township Commissioners may appropriate, out of Township funds, money to any volunteer fire company belonging to the said Fire Department and may also purchase, out of Township funds, equipment and/or apparatus for any such volunteer fire company.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Fire Department shall be the Fire Chief, who shall have charge of and direct the fire companies comprising the Fire Department in the performance of their duties and in the conduct of their activities. The Fire Chief shall be appointed by the Board of Township Commissioners from time to time and shall serve at the pleasure of the Board of Township Commissioners. He shall, from time to time and as required by the Board of Township Commissioners, make reports and furnish information on the work of the volunteer fire companies, their facilities, personnel, equipment, apparatus and needs.
The Board of Township Commissioners shall also, from time to time, appoint an Assistant Fire Chief, who shall serve at the pleasure of the Board of Township Commissioners. The Assistant Fire Chief shall be subordinate to the Fire Chief and shall assist the Fire Chief in taking charge of and directing the fire companies comprising the Fire Department in the performance of their duties and the conduct of their activities. The Assistant Fire Chief, in case of absence or temporary disability of the Fire Chief, shall perform the duties and may exercise the powers and authority of the Fire Chief.
