There is hereby established in the Fire Department of the Township
of Bloomfield an Arson Investigation Unit. The Arson Investigation
Unit shall be responsible for conducting investigations of arson,
suspicious fires or explosions within the Township.
The Arson Investigation Unit shall consist of such members of
the headquarters company as the Fire Chief, with the approval of the
Mayor and Township Council, shall designate.
Before any member shall be assigned to the Arson Investigation
Unit, they shall have successfully completed a basic training course
for police officers at a school approved by the Police Training Commission
and an arson investigation training course approved by the New Jersey
Department of Law and Public Safety.
Any member who is assigned to the Arson Investigation Unit shall
attend and successfully complete in-service training programs as required
by the Division of Criminal Justice.
Any member who is assigned full time to the Arson Investigation
Unit shall have the same powers and authority of police officers within
the municipality while engaged in the actual performance of arson
investigation duties. Such member is hereby authorized to carry a
firearm while engaged in the actual performance of arson investigation
duties.
