There is hereby created the Veterans Advisory Commission of Northampton Township which shall be an advisory commission to the Board of Supervisors.

The Veterans Advisory Commission shall consist of seven members who shall be appointed by a voting majority of the Board of Supervisors for staggered terms of three years. Initial terms of appointment will have three members serving three-year terms, two members serving two-year terms, and two members serving one-year terms.

All members of the Veterans Advisory Commission shall be residents of Northampton Township and serve without compensation other than for such expenses in connection with their duties on said Commission, as the Board of Supervisors shall approve in advance.

A quorum shall consist of four members. Actions may only be taken by affirmative vote of a quorum of the Commission.

The Veterans Advisory Commission shall elect from its members, at the first meeting thereof, and at the annual meeting in January of each and every year thereafter, a Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary and such other officers as the said Commission may deem necessary, by a majority vote of the members present at such meeting constituting a quorum. Notice of the annual meeting shall be sent to each member by the Secretary at least five days prior to said meeting. Regular or special meetings shall convene at the call of the Chairman, or in such other manner as the members may, by a majority vote, designate, or at the request of the Board of Supervisors.

The Veterans Advisory Commission shall undertake the following duties and responsibilities in connection with advising the Board of Supervisors on issues faced by resident veterans and active-duty personnel, and provide support to veterans and military families in the community:
A. 
Manage the Township Patriots Flag Program, Memorial Day ceremony, Flag Day ceremony, Veterans Day ceremony, and other patriotic programs.
B. 
Recommend plans and programs for the support of Township veterans and their families whenever feasible.
C. 
Implement veteran-related tasks as requested by the Board of Supervisors in accordance with the purposes of the Commission.

The Veterans Advisory Commission shall meet at least quarterly throughout the calendar year. The Secretary shall prepare minutes of each meeting and, upon approval, forward a copy to the Board of Supervisors.

The Veterans Advisory Commission shall make such reports from time to time as requested by the Board of Supervisors.
