The Borough of Bridgeport finds it necessary to enact appropriate
legislation in order to set forth, establish, and adopt Borough elected
official term limits in accordance with the Pennsylvania Borough Code,
Sections 811, 815, and 821.
The following words and phrases, when used in this article,
shall have the following meanings:
The Borough of Bridgeport, County of Montgomery, Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania.
The Borough Council of Bridgeport Borough.
The Borough Mayor of Bridgeport Borough.
The Tax Collector for Bridgeport Borough.
The duration of years for which a publicly elected official
may serve upon being elected to a term of office in the Borough beginning
the first Monday of January next succeeding a Borough election. This
article does not pertain to or limit the amount of times an elected
official may run for office subsequently after serving a term in office.
A.
The Borough consists of three wards for which the electors elect
two representatives to Borough Council for each ward.
B.
At each municipal election in the Borough, where Borough Council
members must be elected, the electors of each ward shall elect the
necessary Borough Council members to hold office for a term of four
years from the first Monday of January next succeeding the election.
C.
Given that the Borough consists of two Borough Council members from
each of its three wards, the Borough must also have elected by the
Borough electors a Borough Council member at large to keep a consistent
Borough Council membership of seven Borough Council members.
D.
At each municipal election in the Borough, where an at-large Borough
Council member must be elected to hold office, the electors of all
wards shall elect one Borough Council member to hold office as an
at-large Borough Council member for a term of four years from the
first Monday of January next succeeding the election.
E.
The Borough consists of the elected position of Borough Mayor. This
position is held by one individual.
F.
At each municipal election in the Borough, where the position of
Mayor must be elected to hold office, the electors of all wards shall
elect one individual to hold office as Borough Mayor for a term of
four years from the first Monday of January next succeeding the election.
G.
The Borough consists of the elected position of Borough Tax Collector.
This position is held by one individual.
H.
At each municipal election in the Borough, where the position of
Tax Collector must be elected to hold office, the electors of all
wards shall elect one individual to hold office as Borough Tax Collector
for a term of four years from the first Monday of January next succeeding
the election.
I.
Prior to the enactment of this article, all Borough Council members
from each of the three Borough wards served a term of four years.
This article serves to memorialize and confirm this term limit.
J.
Prior to the enactment of this article, the Borough Council member
at large served for a term of two years. This article serves to amend
that rule and change the Borough Council member at large elected term
from a term of two years to a term of four years.
K.
Prior to the enactment of this article, the Borough Mayor served
a term of four years. This article serves to memorialize and confirm
this term limit.
L.
Prior to the enactment of this article, the Borough Tax Collector
served a term of four years. This article serves to memorialize and
confirm this term limit.
