Note: Effective as of January 1, 1964, the voters of the
Township of Woodbridge, by referendum held on November 6, 1962, and
acting pursuant to the Optional Municipal Charter Law. (N.J.S.A. 40:69A-1
et seq.), commonly known as the "Faulkner Act," adopted Article 8,
Mayor-Council Plan F, of that statute as their form of local government.
[Article 8 was repealed by P.L. 1979, c. 83, ยงย 1 (N.J.S.A.
40A:16-23). For continuance of a Charter of a municipality with a
Mayor-Council Plan adopted prior to January 9, 1982, see N.J.S.A.
40:69A-208.1.] Pursuant to this Plan, the Township is governed by
an elected Council of nine (9) members and an elected Mayor, each
of whom serves for a term of four (4) years. Four (4) of the Councilmen
are elected at large, and one (1) Councilman is elected from each
of the five (5) wards into which the Township is divided. The terms
of the Councilmen At Large overlap those of the Ward Councilmen so
that an election is held every two (2) years for either Ward Councilmen
or Councilmen At Large, as the case may be.
For statutes requiring the taking of oaths of office and
requiring bond of certain officers and employees, see the Local Fiscal
Affairs Law, N.J.S.A. 40A:5-33 et seq.
The voters of the Township, by referendum held on November
4, 1947, adopted the provisions of the Civil Service Act (N.J.S.A.
11:3).
Ordinances setting forth the compensation or salaries
of the Mayor, President and members of the Municipal Council and Township
Directors are not codified.
These Revised General Ordinances do not include ordinances
creating offices or employments or positions or titles within the
classified service of the Civil Service Law or which are held by any
officer or employee protected by any other tenure of office law.
