a. The Mayor shall be the chief executive and administrative officer
of the Township, at an annual salary as determined from time to time
by Township ordinance or the available Township appropriations.
b. He shall, in addition to the other powers and duties devolving upon
his office by law:
1. Enforce the Charter and ordinances of the Township and all general
laws applicable thereto.
2. Supervise all of the Departments of the Township government.
3. Require each Department to make an annual report and such other reports
of its work as he may deem desirable.
4. Appoint all officers and employees for whose election or appointment
no other provision is made by Charter or ordinance.
5. From time to time make such recommendations or action by the Council
as he may deem in the public interest.
6. Report annually during the first six (6) months of the year, no later
than June 30, to the Council and the public on the work of the previous
year and the conditions and requirements of the Municipal government
for the current year.
7. Have such other functions, powers and duties as are provided by the
Charter, these Revised General Ordinances, including this chapter
or other ordinances of the Township, as well as N.J.S.A. 40A:69-40.

Any such appointment shall terminate not later than one hundred
eighty (180) days after the date of the appointment. In the event
that a permanent appointment has not been approved at the expiration
of the initial one hundred eighty (180) day period the Municipal Council
shall, by resolution, authorize one (1) additional one hundred eighty
(180) day extension.

As provided by the Charter (N.J.S.A. 40:69-A-43):
a. Each Department shall be headed by a Director, who shall be appointed
by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Council. Each Department
Head shall serve during the term of office of the Mayor appointing
him and until the appointment and qualification of his successor.
b. The Mayor may in his discretion remove any Department Head after
notice and an opportunity to be heard. Prior to removing a Department
Head, the Mayor shall first file written notice of his intention with
the Council, and such removal shall become effective on the 20th day
after the filing of such notice unless the Council shall, prior thereto,
have adopted a resolution by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the whole
number of the Council, disapproving the removal.
