The Municipal Court of the Township, heretofore established as of January 1, 1949 in accordance with law, is hereby continued.

The name of the Municipal Court shall be the "Municipal Court of the Township of Woodbridge."

The Municipal Court shall have an Official Seal which shall bear the impress of the name of the Court.

The Municipal Court of the Township shall have a judge or judges who shall be known as the Judge or Judges of the Municipal Court. He or they shall be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Municipal Council and shall have the qualifications required by law. The Judges shall serve for a term of three (3) years from the date of his or their appointment and until his or their successor are appointed and qualified.

The Judges of the Municipal Court shall be compensated by an annual salary as established by the Municipal Council. This compensation shall be in lieu of any and all other fees.

The Municipal Court and the Judges thereof shall have, possess and exercise all the jurisdictions, powers, functions and duties which are or may be conferred by law and the applicable rules of the Supreme Court of New Jersey.

There shall be a Court Administrator who shall be appointed by the Mayor. He shall serve for a term of three (3) years from the date of his appointment and until his successor is appointed and qualified. The Court Administrator must possess an accreditation certification pursuant to N.J.S.A. 2B:12-11. The Court Administrator shall perform such functions and duties as shall be prescribed for him by law, by the rules of the Supreme Court of New Jersey applicable to Municipal Courts and by the Judges of the Municipal Court.

There shall be a Court Director who shall be appointed by the Mayor. He shall serve at the pleasure of the Mayor until a successor is appointed and qualified. The Court Director must possess an accreditation certification pursuant to N.J.S.A. 2B:12-11. The Court Director shall perform such functions and duties as shall be prescribed for him by law, by the rules of the Supreme Court of New Jersey applicable to Municipal Courts and by the Judges of the Municipal Court.

The Judge or Judges of the Municipal Court of the Township and the Court Administrator before entering upon the duties of his office shall enter into a bond as required by law.

Any person charged with a crime or offense before the Woodbridge Township Municipal Court who desires to apply for representation by a Municipal Public Defender shall be required to pay an application fee of not more than two hundred ($200.00) dollars, but only in an amount necessary to pay the costs of Municipal Public Defender services. The Municipal Court may, based upon the authority of P.L. 1997, c. 256, waive any such application fee, in whole or in part, if the Court determines, in its discretion, that the application fee represents an unreasonable burden on the person seeking representation.

Persons having weddings or civil union ceremonies performed in the Woodbridge Municipal Court shall pay a fee at the time the license is obtained equal to:
a. 
One hundred ($100.00) dollars if either or both of the parties entering into the marriage or civil union is a Woodbridge Township resident; or
b. 
One hundred fifty ($150.00) dollars if neither party entering into the marriage or civil union is a Woodbridge Township resident.
