A. 
There is hereby created the position of Deputy Municipal Clerk in accordance with N.J.S.A. 40A:9-135 et seq. The Deputy Municipal Clerk shall be appointed in accordance with law for a term of one (1) year commencing on January 1 or such later date on which the Deputy Municipal Clerk may be appointed, until December 31 of the year for which he is appointed and until his successor shall have been appointed and qualified. Any vacancy in the position occurring other than by expiration of term shall be filled in like manner, but for the unexpired term only.
B. 
The Deputy Municipal Clerk shall assist the Municipal Clerk in all duties required by law of the Municipal Clerk. Additionally, the Deputy Municipal Clerk shall have all the powers and duties of the Municipal Clerk during absence or disability of the latter and shall also have such other powers and duties as shall be prescribed by the governing body.
C. 
The Deputy Municipal Clerk shall receive such compensation as shall be prescribed in the Salary Ordinance.
