A. 
There is hereby created the position of Parking Enforcement Officer. The Parking Enforcement Officer shall be a special police officer of the Somerville Police Department, serving under the direction of the Director of Parking & Engineering Services. The Parking Enforcement Officer is to enforce parking regulations within the Borough of Somerville or any other duties which may be prescribed by the Director of Parking & Engineering Services.
B. 
Director of Parking and Engineering Services shall assign the Parking Enforcement Officer to patrol the business area and public parking lots throughout the town for the purpose of enforcing parking regulations.

The duties of the Parking Enforcement Officer shall consist of the following:
A. 
Patrol of metered areas in business district and outlying areas, with enforcement directed at:
(1) 
Meter violations.
(2) 
Double parking.
(3) 
Restricted area parking.
(4) 
All other parking violations.
B. 
Observations of conditions which require correction by other members of the Department or other agencies of the Borough.
C. 
Presentation of testimony in court.
D. 
Preparation of reports, if required.
E. 
Completion of motor vehicle summons forms.
F. 
Performance of related work as necessary.

H. 
The control of traffic at assigned school posts.
I. 
Control of traffic at other intersections or other locations that may be deemed necessary.

Parking Enforcement Officer(s) shall:
A. 
Meet all the conditions and requirements of the Borough's Personnel & Procedure Manual and shall be held responsible for proper performance and strict adherence to all rules and regulations adopted.
B.

Wear uniform as prescribed by the Borough.
D. 
Appear in court as required by the court.
E. 
Report all street light outages to the appropriate department and/or agency.
F. 
Report violations of sanitation to the appropriate department and/or agency.
