No person driving or in charge of a motor vehicle shall permit
it to stand unattended in any off-street public place or on any new
or used car lot or on any private or public parking lot open to patrons,
guests or the public in general, without first stopping the engine,
locking the ignition and effectively setting the brake thereon.
The registered owner of any motor vehicle found unattended with the engine running or the ignition unlocked or the brake not effectively set shall be held prima facie responsible for any such violation of §
169-1.
Any person who shall violate any provisions of this Article
shall, upon conviction, be subject to a fine not to exceed five hundred
dollars ($500) or imprisonment for a period not to exceed ninety (90)
days, or both.
