A Municipal Clerk shall be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of Council. The term of office of the Clerk shall be three years which shall run from January 1 in the year in which the Clerk was appointed.

The Municipal Clerk shall be qualified by previous training or experience to perform the duties of this office. No person shall be appointed Township Clerk unless he shall have a registered Municipal Clerk Certificate issued pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:9-133 et seq.

The Municipal Clerk shall serve as Clerk of the Council, perform such functions as may be required by law of Municipal Clerks generally, have such other powers and duties as Council may prescribe. The Clerk shall maintain the records and minutes of the Township Council.[1]
The Municipal Clerk shall record all ordinances and resolutions[2] adopted by Council and at the close of each year, with the advice and assistance of the Township Attorney, shall bind, compile or codify all the ordinances and resolutions, or true copies thereof, of the Township which then remain in force and effect. The Clerk shall also properly index the record books, compilation or codification of ordinances and resolutions.
