Under direction operates or is aboard an ambulance to a location
where emergency medical treatment is needed and provides such treatment
both at the scene and on the return trip to the hospital; does related
work as required.

Answers all calls for emergency medical treatment; drives ambulance
to required location; parks ambulance in a safe location and creates
a safe traffic environment by placement of road flares, removal of
debris, and redirection of traffic; determines the nature and extent
of injury and establishes priorities for emergency care; renders emergency
care such as opening and maintaining an airway, giving positive pressure
ventilation; cardioresuscitation; stops bleeding by bandaging or tourniquets;
treats shock; immobilizes fractures and provides initial care of poisoned
and burned patients; searches for medical identification emblem as
a clue for providing emergency care; extricates patients from entrapment;
radios the dispatcher for additional help if needed; prepares victims
for transportation in an ambulance; cares for patient on return trip
to hospital; reports to the dispatcher the nature and extent of injuries
to assure prompt medical care on arrival; may request advice from
hospital physician or emergency department; emergency treatment may
include delivery of babies; on arrival transfers to stretcher, carries
into hospital and provides nurse or doctor the evaluation of the patient's
condition; prepares a simple report of trips made and also enters
trips into a chronological log; may also act as dispatcher determining
priorities in calls for ambulance and dispatching the ambulance.

a.
Satisfactory completion of an 81 hour Emergency Medical Technician-Ambulance
training program accredited by the New Jersey Department of Health.
b.
Possession of a valid New Jersey driver's license.
c.
Thorough knowledge of the principals of emergency medical or first
aid treatment, of the use and practice of pulmonary and cardiac resuscitation,
of the administration of oxygen when necessary, of the appropriate
emergency treatment depending on the patient's condition, of the priorities
to be observed in the treatment of patients.
d.
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English sufficiently
to perform the duties of this position; ability to remain calm in
a crisis situation, to establish rapport with the patient, to drive
an ambulance with caution and to work harmoniously with others.
e.
Good health and freedom from disabling physical and mental defects
which would impair the proper performance of the required duties or
which might endanger the health and safety of oneself or others.
NOTE: Medical Examination: Candidates certified from the eligible
list for this title may be required to undergo a medical examination
by the appointing authority.
f.
Must be a resident of the Township of Lakewood.
g.
Must hold a valid EMT-A Card.
The salary range for said position shall be as set forth in
the Salary Ordinance of the Township of Lakewood.

Acts as a personal aide and liaison between Mayor, the Civil
Rights Commission and other various governmental agencies and assists
him by performing varied responsible administrative duties as it relates
to civil rights in the Township.

Conducts the operation of the Civil Rights Office; collects
and analyzes data needed as a basis for policy decisions; prepares
correspondence, reports and recommendations for the review and signature
of the Mayor; handles complex and confidential civil rights matters;
coordinates the activities of said office with various other governmental
agencies; acts as a liaison between the Mayor and public and provides
information to those requesting it; makes referrals to the proper
state, local and other groups; assembles data and other materials
required for reports; attempts to resolve problems brought to the
attention of the Civil Rights Commission and the Mayor; maintains
all records of the Civil Rights Commission.

1.
Five years experience in the area of civil rights and affirmative
action programs.
2.
Thorough knowledge of policies, procedures and regulations relative
to the work of municipal government, of the statutory provisions regarding
municipal government and of the policies and procedures involved in
the formulation of effective policies and procedures.
3.
Ability to organize assigned technical tasks and interpret basic
law and regulations; to talk with employees and public officials;
to prepare detailed correspondence; to prepare clear, sound, accurate
and informative statistical and other reports on personnel transactions
and problems containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations,
and to maintain essential records and files.
