[HISTORY: Adopted by the Mayor and Council of the Town of Secaucus 7-24-01 by Ord. No. 2001-15. Amendments noted where applicable.]
The Town of Secaucus shall hereafter observe Memorial Day as a day for prayer and ceremonies showing respect for American veterans of wars and other military conflicts.
At 3:00 p.m., local time, on Memorial Day, the Town of Secaucus shall observe and ask all of its residents and visitors to voluntarily observe in their own way a moment of remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever they are doing for a moment of silence or listening to "Taps" and a recitation of Colonel John McCrae's "In Flanders Field."[1]

Editor's Note: A copy of "In Flanders Field" may be found on file in the office of the Town Clerk.
The Town of Secaucus shall, pursuant to federal law, observe the last Monday in May as Memorial Day. However, the town of Secaucus believes that its dead brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, friends and neighbors will best be remembered if Memorial Day observance is restored to its traditional May 30th date and the observance of Memorial Day in the Town of Secaucus will automatically revert to such May 30th date upon the passage of appropriate federal law.
