Any person who anywhere in the limits of the City, fires or
discharges any cannon, gun, pistol, or other firearm or who explodes
any cannon firecracker, or places upon the tracks of any railway or
place where the same are exploded or liable to be exploded, any fulminating
or other explosives, caps or substance, shall be guilty of a simple
misdemeanor, except that a duly organized nonprofit club may by special
permit issued by the chief of police, subject to the approval of the
City Council, discharge firearms in the City.
This section does not apply to law enforcement officers engaged
in law enforcement activity.
Nothing in this section shall prohibit the hunting of coyotes
with a shotgun upon nonpublic property not less than 10 acres in size
and zoned for use as "A-1" Agricultural District by the owner of the
property or persons hunting with the owner's permission provided (1)
shotguns are not being discharged toward and within 1500 feet of structures
located on the property or within 1500 feet and toward the property's
boundary line or a public right of way unless the discharge is directed
downward toward an impervious earthen backstop, and (2) any person
hunting coyotes shall, while hunting, possess and show their hunting
license, if necessary, and authorization to hunt on the land to any
law enforcement officer or conservation officer upon request. No one
under the age of 18 years of age shall hunt pursuant to the provisions
of this section unless they are the owner of the land or a lineal
descendant of the owner of the lawn.
