[HISTORY: 1973 Code §§ 66-1—66-8 as amended through October 13, 2016. Amendments noted where applicable.]
Every building or lot of land fronting on any accepted street of the Borough of North Caldwell shall be designated by a number marked on the Tax Maps of the Borough of North Caldwell.
It shall be the duty of the Borough Engineer to determine such numbers and to delineate them on said Tax Maps; a lot of land for the purpose of this chapter shall be a unit of the minimum width required for building purposes, on the street upon which it fronts, by the Zoning Ordinances of the Borough of North Caldwell, codified as Chapter 107, Zoning and Land Use.
Even numbers shall be on the southerly and easterly sides of said streets and odd numbers on the northerly and westerly sides of said streets. Numbers of streets which continue in any other municipality shall, so far as may be possible, be designed to conform to numbers established in said municipality or to provide for a continuation of the numbering in said other municipality when established.
The owner or owners of every building fronting on said streets shall apply to the Borough Tax Assessor for the correct number of the lot upon which such building stands, and shall at his own expense place and display such number on the front of such building.
A.
It shall be the duty of the owner or occupant of every house or building in the borough to display thereon, in a place visible from the street, the designated street number of the house or building.
B.
In those circumstances where the house or building is served by a curbside mailbox, in addition to displaying the street number on the front of the house or building, the street number shall be displayed on the mailbox or mailbox support in such a way as to be visible to oncoming traffic from both directions.
If the said dwelling, store or other improvement has such a setback location that the provisions of § 66-5 cannot be complied with, then the owner or occupant shall provide a post, rod or other type of fixture of a substantial nature with the number affixed thereon and located on the premises so that the number shall be conspicuous and visible from the street, road, avenue, lane or way on which the premises front, or from which access to it is had.
Said numbers so used in compliance with this chapter shall be of a height not less than three inches.
