The Uniform Fire Safety Act, (P.L. 1983, c. 383) was enacted for the purpose of establishing a system for the enforcement of minimum fire safety standards throughout the State of New Jersey. The Uniform Fire Safety Act authorizes municipalities to provide for local enforcement and to establish local enforcement agencies for that purpose. It is in the best interest of the Township of Hope to have the Uniform Safety Act enforced locally.

Pursuant to Section 11 of the Uniform Fire Safety Act (P.L. 1983, c. 383) the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code shall be locally enforced in the Township of Hope.

The Bureau of Fire Prevention of the Township of Hope is hereby established. The Bureau shall be comprised of the following three members who shall serve without compensation:
The Hope Fire Protection Subcode Official appointed pursuant to the State Uniform Construction Code Act; the Hope Township Mayor; and the Chief of the Hope Township Volunteer Fire Department.

The Annual Budget for the operation of the Bureau of Fire Prevention shall be established by the Township Committee.

The local enforcing agency shall be the Bureau of Fire Prevention of the Township of Hope as established by subsection 13-1.3.

The local enforcing agency established by subsection 13-1.3 shall carry out the periodic inspection of life hazard uses required by the Uniform Fire Code on behalf of the Commissioner of Community Affairs and all other responsibilities as established by the Uniform Fire Code.

The local enforcing agency shall be under the direct supervision of the Fire Official who shall be the Fire Subcode Official appointed pursuant to the State Uniform Construction Code Act.
Compensation for the Fire Official shall be in accordance with the Salary Ordinance adopted annually by the Hope Township Committee.
The Fire Official shall be subject to removal by the Hope Township Committee for inefficiency or misconduct.

Pursuant to Sections 15 and 17 of the Uniform Fire Safety Act, any person aggrieved by any order of the local enforcement agency shall have the right to appeal to the construction board of appeals of Hope Township.
