All premises which the Fire Department may be called upon to
protect in case of fire and which are not readily accessible from
public roads shall be provided with suitable gates, access roads,
and fire lanes so that all buildings on the premises are accessible
to fire apparatus.

Fire lanes shall be provided for all buildings that are set
back more than 150 feet from a public road or exceed 30 feet in height
and are set back over 50 feet from a public road.

Fire lanes shall be not less than 20 feet of unobstructed width,
able to withstand live loads of fire apparatus and have a minimum
of 13 feet, six inches of vertical clearance. An approved turnaround
for fire apparatus shall be provided where an access road is a dead
end and is in access of 150 feet in length. The turnaround shall have
a minimum centerline radius of 50 feet. The grade of the fire lane
shall be within the limits established by the authority having jurisdiction.

During construction the contractor or person in charge of any
construction site shall provide and maintain an approved hard-surfaced,
all weather access lane, not less than 20 feet in width, as shown
on approved site plans. Such access lane shall be complete at such
time that construction has progressed to first use of combustible
materials provided that access lanes shall not be required for sites
whose structures total less than 4,000 square feet unless constituting
or declared high hazard occupancy by the Fire Chief.

The designation, use and maintenance of fire lanes on private
property shall be accomplished as specified by the Fire Chief or Fire
Marshal.

It shall be unlawful for any person to park motor vehicles on, or otherwise obstruct, any fire lane whether on private and/or public property. Those violating this ordinance shall be subject to the penalty outlined in Section
9-31 of this Municipal Code.
