For provisions pertaining to the defense and indemnification of Township Officials, employees and appointees see Section 2-69 of the Revised General Ordinances. Pursuant to Ordinance No. 126-04, adopted April 22, 2004 personnel policies and procedures shall be adopted and amended by resolution.

The contents of this Handbook do not constitute an employment
or other agreement between the Township of Upper Freehold and its
employees, and does not otherwise change the at-will status of the
Township's employees. Nothing within this Handbook shall constitute
or be construed as a term and/or condition of employment, nor shall
anything within this Handbook be deemed to bind the Township with
reference to the manner in which the Township may discipline or otherwise
supervise its employees. As the policies and procedures described
are not conditions of employment, the Township of Upper Freehold reserves
the right to modify, revoke, suspend, terminate or change any or all
such policies or procedures, in whole or in part, at any time.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the employment practices
of the municipality shall operate under the legal doctrine known,
as "employment at will." Within Federal and State law and any applicable
bargaining unit agreement, Upper Freehold Township shall have the
right to terminate an employee at any time and for any reason, with
or without notice, except that Upper Freehold Township shall comply
with all Federal and State legal requirements requiring notice and
an opportunity to be heard in the event of discipline or dismissal.
