[Adopted as Art. 1, Ch. 100, of the General Bylaws]
These bylaws are the Bylaws of the Town of Longmeadow, Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
By vote of the Town on May 18, 2004, and pursuant to Article LXXXIX (89) of the Amendments of the Massachusetts Constitution and Chapter 43B of the General Laws of the Commonwealth (the Home Rules Procedures Act), the Town adopted a Home Rule Charter as the governing framework of the Town. That charter is incorporated in these bylaws by reference.
These bylaws are in effect by reason of their having been adopted by the Town Meeting of the Town of Longmeadow and approved by the Attorney General of the commonwealth.
These bylaws may be amended as authorized by the General Laws of the commonwealth.

The Town Clerk, or an agent designated by the Town Clerk, shall be authorized to assign appropriate numbers to sections, subsections, paragraphs and subparagraphs of the Town General Bylaws and Zoning Bylaw, where none are approved by Town Meeting. Where Town Meeting has approved numbering of sections, subsections, paragraphs and subparagraphs of the Town General Bylaws and Zoning Bylaw, the Town Clerk, or an agent designated by the Town Clerk, after consultation with the Town Manager, shall be authorized to make nonsubstantive editorial revisions to the numbering to ensure consistent and appropriate sequencing, organization and numbering of the bylaws.

Massachusetts General Laws appearing in these bylaws are cited as "MGL."

A penalty provided for the violation of these General Bylaws shall be for each violation. In the case of a continuing violation, each day in which the violation occurs shall be considered a separate violation. Whoever violates any provision of these General Bylaws shall, unless otherwise provided in these General Bylaws, pay a fine of $25 on the first offense and a fine of $100 on the second offense and subsequent offenses for each violation.
